Free Comic Book Day and...well...us?

Thanks to Kevin and his knack for making friends pretty much anywhere, we've been invited to participate in activities being held in honor of Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 7. We'll be hanging out with Kansas City-area comics creators at Pop Culture Comix, a super-cool comics and collectibles store in Overland Park, Kansas. We'll have copies of Breakdowns for sale/signing, so come out and see us!

I know, you're probably wondering what a couple of geek Trek writers are doing at a comics-related event. The answer is that the shop's owner likes us, and we figure by the time anyone else does the math and wonders aloud about it, we'll have made our getaway.

That's the plan, anyway.

Second Printings, Yo!

Found out today from Pocket Books Star Trek editor Marco Palmieri that one of our books, A Time to Harvest, is going back for a second printing. Sweet!

In addition to our little book, Christie Golden's Star Trek: Voyager book Spirit Walk Book One: Old Wounds and Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Volume Two by Andy Mangels & Michael A. Martin and J. Noah Kym are also going back for second printings.

Yay us!

Whaddaya doin', Ward?

I know, I know. I suck at updating this thing.

But I have good reason. I've been busy with a few projects which may or may not interest you. Okay, they interest me. If you dig 'em, that's cool. Otherwise, you can always surf porn sites.

First, I'm finishing up my revisions on the first draft of The Genesis Protocol, the science fiction novel I'm writing for Phobos Books. It's not due until April 1st, but I'm ahead of schedule. Yay me!

I also mailed off my submission for this year's issue of Kansas City Voices Magazine, a local literary offering featuring fiction, essays, poetry, and art from writers in and around Kansas City. The editors of the magazine bought my story "Absent Friends" for last year's edition, so I'm hoping I can wow them again.

Kevin and I turned in a proposal to Keith DeCandido for our next Star Trek: S.C.E. offering. Even the title's super secret right now, but it's going to be a crossover with our gang of misfits from the U.S.S. Lovell and the crew from the new Star Trek: Vanguard series, which will be kicked off by Bad Assed Dave Mack himself later this year with his novel Harbinger. Sweet.

And I sent my agent proposals for two new novel projects. One is a Trek book I've had a hankering to write for a while now, but it kept getting sidetracked. Hopefully Pocket will be as enthusiastic about it as I am. Keep those fingers crossed.

Oh, and the other proposal? Why, it was for...wait for it...Counterstrike: The Last World War - Book II. That's right, fans of the Blues and Grays, the pitch is finally in play. No telling where it will land, if anywhere, but at least I can say that I finally got the ball rolling.

So you can quit sending me death threats now.

S.C.E. News from Keith DeCandido!

The Exalted One (not to be confused with "The Chosen One"), Keith R.A. DeCandido, also known as the editor of the Star Trek: S.C.E. series, offered this announcement about upcoming projects today:

"In honor of Star Trek's 40th anniversary in 2006, the Star Trek: S.C.E. eBooks #61-64 will be a special four-part event that will give us flashbacks that also cross over with other aspects of the Trek universe.

#61: Progress by Terri Osborne
How did David Gold wind up commanding an S.C.E. ship, anyhow? This story of Gold's intro to the Corps of Engineers will guest star TNG's Dr. Katherine Pulaski and bring back the world of Drema IV and the character of Sarjenka from the episode "Pen Pals." Osborne is the author of #50: Malefictorum, as well as stories in DS9: Prophecy and Change, NF: No Limits, and VOY: Distant Shores.

#62: The Future Begins by Steve Mollmann & Michael Schuster
Many fans have wondered how Scotty could have been a greeter on Risa in the New Frontier novels when he was running the S.C.E. This story by new authors Mollmann & Schuster explains this disparity in a story of Dominion War espionage guest starring Admirals Ross and Nechayev, as well as Geordi La Forge.

#63: Echoes of Coventry by Richard C. White
Before he joined the S.C.E., Bart Faulwell was a crytography expert for Starfleet during the Dominion War. This tale will examine one of those top-secret missions in which Faulwell has to make the most difficult choice of his career. This is the first Trek story from White, the author of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy and the creator of the comics Troubleshooters Inc. and Chronicles of the Sea Dragon.

#64: TBA by Dayton Ward & Kevin Dilmore
This story -- the title of which is still top-secret -- will combine the U.S.S. Lovell and their 23rd century Corps of Engineers team (from #17-19: Foundations and #44: Where Time Stands Still) with the intrepid crew from the upcoming Star Trek: Vanguard. We'd tell you more, but then we'd have to kill you. Ward & Dilmore have written eight previous S.C.E. eBooks, as well as "Field Expediency," the S.C.E. story in Tales of the Dominion War."

Pretty cool, huh?

In a fit of workplace boredom...

...I looted this from Keith DeCandido's blog, who in turn "smurched" it from other bloggers. States in red indicate that I've been there:
